Embassy Hotel History
The Embassy Hotel was built in 1928 during Brisbane's interwar building boom. It is one of eight remaining pre-World War II corner hotels in Brisbane's Central Business District (CBD). The 1920's were a period or economic prosperity in Queensland and this was reflected in the design and features represented in the hotels facade. The Embassy Hotel was specifically mentioned as one of the new buildings that reflected Brisbane's success. The Embassy Hotel opened for business in 1929.
The four-storey hotel is a brick, concrete-floored, steal-framed building with basement. The original roof garden was replaced by a fifth floor in 1979. The original ground floor contained public and private bars, lounges, offices and restrooms. A bottle shop was located on Elizabeth Street side. The first floor contained a large dinning room, kitchen and various offices, sitting rooms, lounges and bedrooms. The upper floors comprised bedrooms, some with private bathrooms and a lounge on each floor.
The Embassy Hotel over the years has risen to immense popularity around the city's youth and corporate population. Capitalising on its central location the hotel endeavours to maintain a product that can cater to a broad and ever evolving market. Since changing ownership in 2004 the venue has successfully maintained a premium venue satisfying the trends and impressions of its population.
With its latest renovation The Embassy Hotel has been transformed into Brisbane's chic new city destination. With a new contemporary fit out and modish bar the Embassy Hotel has evolved into what is now a multi-functioning venue delivering a prestige product duly suited to this new young vibrant city.
